Web Site Development
Miki and Carol Nobs joined my wife Katy Fries on a trip up to the Empire Mine in early June, 2007. While there, they encountered Park Ranger Jane at Pine Porches and had an invigorating talk and house tour with her. They also had a terrific visit with family friend Eddie Anderson, who shared tales and some old photos with them.
When they got back to our home in Auburn, they were so excited by the visit, along with nascent plans for a reunion of sorts at the upcoming Miners Picnic in August, that I felt a need to utilize my web development skills to help organize the storied past of the Empire Mine from the personal perspective of the Nobs family, focused around Pine Porches. Thus PinePorches.com was born.
Welcome to Pine Porches
Pine Porches at the Empire Mine in Grass Valley, California, was the home of mine manager Fred W. Nobs and his wife Mildred Nobs. Many a story has been told about the Nobs family and the Empire Mine - some fanciful, some sorrowful and some simply astounding.
This website is dedicated to their memory and to the memories of their family, friends and associates. If you have a tale to tell, please share! If you have additional information or insight into a tale told, you can add your comments at the bottom of the story.
You can also upload any photos you have related to Pine Porches, the Nobs clan or the Empire Mine.
Nobs Family Reunion at the Miners Picnic
Save the date for the Miner's Picnic • August 25, 2007, 10:30am-4:30pm • Empire Mine, Grass Valley, CA
The Grass Valley Connection Mildred and Fred Nobs were a part of Grass Valley history, and their home, "Pine Porches" remains a vital part of the Historic Empire Mine, housing the Park administrators. Many years have past and the Nobs family tree has expanded. It would be fun and interesting to get a group of interested and related people together for a gathering at the Empire Mine in Grass Valley for the Miner's Picnic on August 25, 2007.
If people are interested in attending the event, please call Katy Fries (Fred Mildred's Daughter) at (530) 888-1057, to RSVP and to discuss some of the catering possibilities for the picnic (Cornish pasties, drinks, salad, homemade ice cream, watermelon) should you wish to be included in the food festivities.
